Two Artists You Shouldn’t Miss Out On This Summer In Indy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

There are two very hip, very different artists coming to Nap Town this summer.  Even if you are not into one or either of the genres, I would recommend that you attend these concerts for the atmosphere and the performances because they are phenomenal.

Early in June rising rap star Childish Gambino will be performing at the Egyptian Room in downtown Indy.  I saw Childish at Bonnaroo last summer and had an absolutely amazing time, even though I had barely heard of him (let alone heard any of his music) before.

The great aspect about Childish is that he knows how to perform.  He began his path to fame as a comedian and still is a comedian under his birth name, Donald Glover.  Unlike other rap artists that have good lyrics but bring a terrible stage presence, Childish Gambino knows how to excite his audience and keep them wanting more, a talent he has obviously pulled from his experience in acting and comedy.

Another interesting characteristic about Childish Gambino is that his lyrics are different from many other rap artists.  The subjects of his songs are not just about all of the girls he is “getting” or the money he is making now that he is a rap star.  He remains true to himself and his beliefs in his lyrics, song and song again.

Then, at the end of July, Florence and The Machine will be performing on Indianapolis’s Lawn at White River.  Again, I first saw Florence live at Bonnaroo and I fell in love with her so much that I went and saw her for a second time last July in Indianapolis at White River.

Florence and The Machine put on a very powerful performance, owing a lot of it to Florence’s lyrics and beautifully strong voice.  Her music is great for listening to and for a social setting.  However, don’t be surprised when all you want to do is listen and sing along.  Florence is magnetically alluring, and she will surprise you with the dynamic music her small frame can produce.

These are, in my opinion, probably the two best artists Indianapolis will host this summer.  I would recommend that you get tickets now, and take friends with you!  Both artists have produced an awesome time for me and I know that I will definitely be going to each of their performances again this summer.
