When Life Gives You Lemons, Go On A Diet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

Okay, so obviously not everyone needs to go on a diet.  In fact, most of the people who believe they need to be dieting probably do not.  However, I personally know how frustrating basically every diet in the history of nutrition and dieting can be to follow.

They vary on their levels of impossibility, but what makes them hardest to follow I think is the fact that we are college students.  For most of us, there is no money in our pocket to pay for healthy meals and no time to watch what we eat.  As pathetic as that sounds, it is the sad truth for many of us.

However, for those of you out there looking for a healthy diet and a simple solution to dieting while always being on the go, I have the problem-solver for you!  You may have heard of it already, but lemons are the answer!

How simple, right?  Think I am making this up?  Well try it out for yourself before casting judgment, because it has worked for me and I have healthily lost around six pounds of that stuff you don’t really need.

Every meal I eat, I always get a glass of water and squeeze at least five lemon slices into it.  I drink this lemon water three times a day with each meal.  On top of that, I walk to EVERY class and basically everywhere else I need to go on campus, and I walk up all five flights of my dorm stairs instead of taking the elevator.

Besides that?  Nothing.  I have not been to the gym a single time this semester (sadly), and I still eat fried foods on occasion.  Drink the lemon water during your meal, rather than after, thus making you feel full faster.  That’s all I do!

The lemons work wonders for your body.  The vitamins in lemons (vitamin C) are super great for your skin and nails, can help fight off the cold or the flu, can help with digestive disorders and can detox your kidney and liver (to an extent).

But for weight loss purposes, this is where the lemons shine the brightest.  Studies have shown that lemon juice helps to lower the rate of absorption of sugars in your body from the foods you eat.  The vitamins in the juice have also been proven to weaken the likelihood of you gaining weight.  On top of all of this, it also helps your body to absorb more calcium.  The more calcium your body absorbs into its fat cells, the less fat it can hold!

This is probably the easiest diet I have ever heard of and tried.  However, you have to make sure you are exercising somewhat daily and trying to eat healthier at the same time.   The lemon juice just speeds the process up!  It’s a really convenient diet, it’s super cheap, and it doesn’t even taste bad.

What other diet can you say that about?  Thought so.
