After watching the end of season 2, I am neither Team Conrad nor Team Jeremiah, I am simply Team Anti-Belly (although I am totally Team Conrad)! I understand that she is just trying to figure herself out, and that Conrad Fisher did not make the communication aspect of their relationship very easy; however, she had no regard for how her actions were affecting Conrad and Jere’s relationship as brothers. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think that she doesn’t want to be with Jere, but I think that if she was that in love with Conrad, then she could not have been in the headspace to also be in love with Jeremiah like two months after their breakup (if it was even 2 months). And when Conrad finally told her how he felt that his intentions were never to break up with her but he felt that he wasn’t being good enough for her, he tried to communicate that with her and she refused to hear it. I just hope that she grows up for the next season and realizes that her actions hurt other people and that they have consequences.
Now for the Jeremiah side of it. I’m not saying that he doesn’t like Belly, I just think that he started liking her for the wrong reasons. His whole life he has been jealous of Conrad because his father always forced a competition between them, and Conrad being the more athletic brother, he would win. So, when he saw that his brother was interested in his best friend, Jere’s coping mechanism was to start liking her too to beat Conrad at something. I could be playing devil’s advocate, but for Jere, Belly was a competition of who could end up with her and he decided to compete to not lose her and her best friend by Conrad dating her.
Well, thank you for reading my two paragraph rant about the second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. If you haven’t watched the show yet, I highly recommend watching it and reading the books as well. You’ll understand my frustration. :)
