As much as you might have dreaded going for cafeteria food in first year and was wondering what sort of mystery meat could be on the menu, at least there was a pizza and sandwich station to calm down your grumbling stomach and get you through the day.
But now that you are out of the sweet residence life and living in a house, the food situation can get a little overwhelming. Sure, there are tons of recipes out there, but balancing school, extracurriculars, and a social life can make it really hard to make time for cooking. Here is a list of some food items you can whip up together in no time – they might not be the most glamorous, but they will sure do the job! Â
1. Grilled CheeseÂ
This classic staple only needs two ingredients to make, and is oh-so-good! If you want to be extra fancy, try using sourdough bread and adding tomatoes inside! Â
2. Eggs
You will soon realize that eggs are your best friend when it comes to cooking, because they are inexpensive, can be cooked in so many different ways, and have a long expiration date – the perfect trio if you ask us! Whether you like them scrambled, in an omelette, or boiled, they are a great source of protein and can fill you up at any time of the day. (Pro Tip: You can hard-boil a bunch of eggs at the beginning of the week, peel them, then put them in a mug full of boiling water right before you want to eat them!) Â
3. Pasta
Ah, good old pasta. Whether you are more of a mac ân cheese kind of girl or a fettucini fiend, pasta is great because of how versatile it is. You can buy pre-packaged sauces at the grocery store or make the sauce from scratch and add in your favourite toppings. Â
4. PB & J
If you are ever feeling homesick, a peanut butter & jelly sandwich will bring you right back to your elementary school days. This is also super convenient for those 8:30 classes where you can easily munch on it while you are on the run (or trying to stay awake in class). Â
5. Waffles
Most people donât think of waffles as being an easy food to make, but they definitely are! You can buy a waffle iron for around $40 and trust me, it will be one of the best investments ever. Of course you can make your batter from scratch, but to save time you can also use premade pancake mix that just needs water, and voila! Five minutes later you have a tasty treat good for any time of the day. Â
6. Yogurt ParfaitÂ
Parfaits sound fancy, but they are super easy to make! Whip together some of your favourite fruits, add yogurt, and top it off with some clustered oats and you got yourself a parfait! There you have it – the 6 easiest recipes that youâll definitely find yourself making time and time again! I really like them because even though they are super easy to make, you can definitely take them up a notch by adding your own customizations. Bon appĂ©tit!
