Every one of us has probably been guilty of texting some boy who definitely wasn’t worth our time at least some point in our lives….only to regret pressing “send” the next moment. You text him; he doesn’t answer right away; you send another text; he answers; you answer back and finally, he doesn’t respond. Then, you’re left in a weird position—you don’t want to double text him again, but you don’t want to stop talking to him, either. It’s a sad, never-ending cycle.
The worst part about this situation is you can just tell he doesn’t really want to talk, but there’s a tiny part of you hoping, praying he’ll change his mind. Maybe he’s your new crush on campus, or worse…your ex-boyfriend (HUGE no-no, collegiettes!). Either way, here are three reasons why you should definitely stop texting him, put your dancing shoes on and go out for a girls’ night at Toad’s:
1. The obvious reason: he doesn’t text you back.
Nothing is more embarrassing than having the courage to spark a conversation with some boy you’ve wanted to talk to, only to be left staring at a blank phone screen as a result. In that case, forget you’ve even sent that text in the first place and delete his number. If he were worth your time, your phone would be blowing up with texts from him filled with interesting conversation.
2. He answers but makes excuses when you want to see him.
I mean, really? Do boys not realize it wouldn’t hurt our feelings if they were just straight up with us instead? Maybe he actually is busy when you ask to hang out, but he definitely isn’t busy every single time. He’s likely to be too much of a coward to actually tell you he’s not interested.
The worst part about this situation is you’re going to continue to ask him to hang out a next time because you don’t expect him to be “busy” again. This is a huge warning flag. Next time he turns down your text to hang, think about calling him out for it. He’ll never expect it.
3. You find yourself double-texting or carrying on the conversation by yourself.
You know the saying, collegiettes: it takes two to tango. A conversation isn’t a one-way street; like any good thing in life, there should be an equal balance between two parties. If you text and it takes him over an hour to get back to you every single time, be the first one to stop answering. If you’re texting the interesting questions or bringing up fun things while he’s responding one word answers (and no emoji), he’s simply just too scared to end the conversation on his own.
Texting is tricky. While these are all reasons you should definitely stop texting him, it may be that he’s just not a texting kind of guy. But, if that’s true, you’ll be able to tell whether he’s interested when you’re with him in person.
If this isn’t the case, do yourself a favor, collegiettes, and stop texting him. You’re better off without him, anyway! Soon enough, a guy will come along who is deserving of your attention. Until then, don’t panic, block out the guys who are a waste of time and treat yourself to many girls’ nights and me-time! XO!
