After traveling home for the long weekend last week, I can definitely say that there is some discomfort involved with flying. Whether it’s security guards searching through all of your belongings, the crying baby that seems to make its way onto every flight, or the ping of disappointment that comes when you realize you forgot that dress you were going to wear, there are a few ways you can make your trip a little more enjoyable.
1. Wear something simple
Everyone knows that when you are going to the airport, you are going to have to take off your jewelry and shoes so that you can walk through the metal detector. And still, there are always those people who decide to come on a flight with seven bracelets on each arm, three necklaces, and boots that take five minutes to lace up. Do yourself a favor and keep the jewelry to a minimum and bring some slip-on shoes (like Minka Kelly does!)
2. Create a playlist
I always find myself bored on flights, but a music or podcast playlist can make the time slip away. I love listening to podcasts. The Apple app has hundreds of different shows to listen to, all for free! So download one or two topics that you want to listen to and relax during your flight. Don’t forget your headphones!
3. Get some shut-eye
If listening to music or podcasts is not your style, sleep! I always find myself sleeping on trips. There is nothing better than getting a couple extra hours of sleep so that you are up and ready to go when you reach your destination.
4. Plan outfits for each day
If you are like me, you constantly worry about what you are going to forget when you go on a trip. One way to stop this worry in its tracks is to plan out an outfit for each day you are there, including jewelry, makeup, and hair. This is the perfect way to look put together during your vacation. Make sure you check what the weather is going to be like for your trip, as well!
5. Stick to only a carry-on
This might be the hardest tip, but it is also the most beneficial. It might seem like a no-brainer for a weekend trip, but even for Thanksgiving break, your life will be a lot easier if you do not have to wait for all your checked luggage. Bring a carry-on bag and make sure that you have a little extra room in there for all the impromptu shopping trips that you’ll take.
Keep calm and travel on, collegiettes! Thanksgiving break is approaching faster than you think!
