You’ve seen her leading the orientation leaders, belting out Eminem during karaoke, repping her Greek letters and rocking out in a music video. Brittany Howse (a.k.a. B Howse) has a big personality and its’ contributed her familiarity on campus as a leader, a motivator, and a friendly face. Today, B Howse discusses her on and off-stage performance these past four years at the Q.
1. What is one piece of advice that you could give to new students looking to get involved?
I would say NEVER HOLD BACK. If you feel like you belong in a program or organization and you know you can make a difference, totally go for it! I would tell them to get involved in as much as possible, and that it is never too late to do it. Feeling like you are a part of something, like a team, is an incredible feeling that you can only experience by taking a chance and getting involved. And who knows what could happen once you take that first step?
2. What did you get out of being an orientation intern this summer?
Honestly, it sounds super cliché, but being Orientation Intern was the most rewarding experience of my life. The Orientation program as a whole has completely stolen my heart, and has opened so many doors for me. Even as a freshman at my own Orientation, I told myself I was going to be a part of that program and I was going to do everything I could to one day leave my mark here at QU. This summer wouldn’t have been as successful without the the other interns, Catie Regan and Alex Barczack, who taught me so much about myself. Oh, and I totally owe Daniel Brown more than just a BHowse hug for giving me the amazing opportunity to learn and grow this summer (and have so much fun doing it).
3. You won Greek Goddess last year! That takes some serious confidence. How did you feel going into the competition?
Hahaha! Well, that was probably the coolest night of my life. I was so honored to win, and was so surprised because there were some seriously great women running against me! Orientation taught me to always be myself, no matter what, but it also helped me perfect my ribbon dancing skills; so naturally I chose to knock everyone dead with a ribbon dance inspired by Ke$ha’s TikTok. Going into the competition I really had no idea what to expect, and was just planning on going for it; so that’s what I did. I tend to kind of black out on stage, which usually results in me making a playful fool of myself. You just have to laugh at yourself, you know? Otherwise, life is boring.
4. You are a founding sister of Alpha Delta Pi. What would you like for the future of your sorority?
The best part about being a founding sister is being able to watch our chapter develop and grow every single day. We just welcomed 67 beautiful and fabulous new women into our sisterhood, and it’s so exciting to be a part of something that is so successful and new. It’s like a breath of fresh air to this school. We just elected new officers, and I know that these women are going to do great things and really have fun with their positions. I hope in the future that the addition of ADPi will spark an interest in Greek Life for everyone, so hopefully Quinnipiac will have a new outlook on what is means to Go Greek! (Throw your diamonds up ladies!)
5. Favorite Quote? “Everything is okay, everything is always okay.”
