If you’re looking to do some good and have some extra time on your hands we have the perfect idea for you! Become a mentor. Not only do you get to share with someone all the things you love to do, mentoring a child is very rewarding. Becoming a mentor provides the support a child needs to grow and
mature into a responsible adult, all with your help. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut is always looking for eager people to positively impact a child and improve their community at the same time.
How often do I see my Little?
For a few hours, a couple times a month you can give a Little the gift of friendship.
What do you do with a Little?
You can play sports, board games, make crafts or head over to the playground! There is really no limit to the fun you can have with your Little.
Can anyone join?
To see if you are eligible to become a Big take a look at the fact sheet at http://bbbsswct.org/big-fact-sheet.
Have a friend that’s a guy or a boyfriend?
BBBSSWCT is in need of male volunteers. Only 3 out of 10 volunteers are men and more than 70% of children are the waiting list are boys. Bring them to sign up with you!
Do I have to travel far?
No! BBBSWCT has towns all around Hamden that you can find a Little to mentor in. You won’t have to go far at all.
So how do you volunteer?
Visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut website or call them at 800-240-7186.
What if I don’t have much free time but still want to help?
Each Big-Little match has a price tag of $1,000. This provides recruitment, training, and ongoing support for the volunteer and child. Any donation helps to meet the goal of helping take a child off the waiting list and on to a great future.
