Brian Tells All! Texting, Dating, and Relationships

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

The reasons the guy isn’t dating you

Obviously this is going to be a case by case situation, but there are some widespread characteristics that can be a huge turn off for a guy. Number one for me is when a girl acts stupider (if that’s even a word) than she really is. I’m not sure where it comes from, but I’ve seen it more and more over the last few years. It might be a Jersey Shore effect because those girls are the perfect examples of what I am talking about. Ladies, don’t act like what you see on TV, there is a reason more guys watch sports than Jersey Shore. And please stop screaming, “Oh my god” at the top of your lungs when you are with a big a group of girls. I swear there is a chain reaction whether it’s at a house or a bar or in the library.

Why are guys so anti-relationship in college?

We are scared. I really believe that, too. Guys are scared about being in a relationship because of what it might say about who they are. The pressure is always coming from other guy friends to stay single, or not get held down. They say guys mature slower than girls, or at least that’s what I was told in middle school. So maybe it is just going to take awhile before we man up and go out on more than two dates with a girl.

What’s the appropriate time to wait before texting a guy back? I don’t want to come off clingy or annoying.

A clingy girl is just about the worst thing possible and it is tough to know when someone is being clingy. Technology makes it even worse because it is so easy to contact someone at all hours, from pretty much anywhere. If you are texting a guy back then text back right away. If you got a number the night before then I’d wait somewhere in the 24 hour range to say hello and strike up a conversation. Personally, a phone call is always better than a text, but that is just me.
