Delt’s Neil Brown

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

“One thing I’ve taken from my experience here is to always be thankful for everything you have and to take the time out of your day to sit back and realize exactly what is going on around you. Have those Aha! moments every once in a while and I promise you life will get better and better each day.”

Neil Brown is not only a campus celebrity because he is the president of Delta Tau Delta, and a well-known leader on our campus, but because the way he lives his life is an inspiration. Here, Neil talks falling in love with Delt, Greek Life, and Quinnipiac.

1. What made you want to be one of the founding members of Delta Tau Delta?

I had always been really involved in High School and as a freshman I wanted to continue that same theme. All year I joined and left many different clubs as I was tying to find that specific organization which related to me but could never really ever find that right fit. Once Delt came along in the Fall of my Sophomore year my RA, Mark Miller our first President, told me to check it out. I went to the tent with my roommate Tom and after speaking with one of the representatives I was hooked. I was a huge fan of the fact that we, as Founding Fathers would have the ability to shape our own organization and really have a strong impact from the beginning. Once a bunch of my other friends began to join, it just solidified the fact that I made the right choice in becoming part of Delt.

2. Do you have any biological brothers? What was it like gaining dozens of them?

I actually only have one biological sibling and that is my sister Allie. She’s awesome and honestly one of the funniest people I have ever met in my life. Other than her I have adopted more then 90 other Brothers who are just as great. They keep me in line when I screw up and are always there to pick me up when I am down. But best of all they are there to share with me the times I will remember most here at Quinnipiac. Some of the most memorable experiences I’ve had here have been with my Brothers and I can honestly say my college experience would be nowhere near as great without each and every one of them.

3. How do you think Delt has added to the Greek life on campus?

I personally think Delt has been able to do a lot for Greek life on the Quinnipiac campus. The organization has added a new dynamic to the different groups here and has given students more of a choice in where they could belong. We are a fraternity of guys from many different organizational backgrounds. We have not yet identified with a specific demographic. We can be the group on campus who guys can look to who maybe never really thought about being part of a fraternity. I know I personally did not have an interest in being part of Greek life until I spoke with the Delt reps and realized there was a place for me. The men of TKE and SigEp have been nothing but welcoming and supportive and I feel as though we fit right in with their position here at Quinnipiac.

4. What is your favorite thing about Quinnipiac?

My favorite thing about Quinnipiac is the size of the campus and the opportunities which come from it. It is awesome to be in classes where teachers actually know your name and don’t just know you as a number. My friends go to schools where they are just another kid in a class of 300 and they really lose out on the type of connections which are made here at QU. The school is small enough where you will always have someone to sit with in the cafe but big enough where you can meet new people everyday. With that being said, different opportunities arise everyday for involvement through this specific type of network. I know I would have never ended up in Nicaragua over Spring break or found myself on stage acting in “Don’t Throw the Tomatoes” if the school wasn’t built the way it is. Quinnipiac allows you to have your own little security bubble while still providing tons of opportunities for you to grow as a person.

I absolutely love this school and everything about it. I am having the time of my life here and have met some amazing people along the way. Definitely looking forward to a solid end to the year and an even better senior year beginning in August. I always love to meet new people so if you would like to come along for the journey don’t hesitate to let me know!
