Holiday Season Budget Tips

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

It may seem early but before you know it the holidays will be approaching. Are you ready? How can you plan to budget before the holiday season hits? Here are a few tips to think about before your time (and money!) runs out.

  • Put away a certain amount of money each week, even $5-10 works. Begin setting money aside. Call it your holiday savings!
  • Think about what you want to get your loved ones ahead of time. This way you might find some great deals before the holiday season and can order gifts online without a problem!Give yourself a limit. Plan out the amount of money you are able to spend. It’s OK to give yourself a little extra spending money as long as you are strict with yourself to no go over your budget.
  • Begin your holiday lists. Write down whom you plan to buy a present for and what you might get them. Write down any big plans you have during the holiday season and how much you might spend on each event. Also, write down any extra expenses you may have during the holiday season.
  • Go shopping with a specific list so you don’t buy unnecessary items. Don’t spend money on things you don’t absolutely need to get.
  • Think of any money you may earn during the holiday season and if you are able to put it towards your holiday expenses or saving it for future expenses.
  • Plan on splitting gifts for certain people. For example, you and your siblings can pitch in to get you’re your parents something, you could also split between friends.
  • Instead of buying every friend a present around the holidays suggest a night where everyone can go out or go away for a night all together. This way instead of handing a present to each friend you can enjoy each others’ presence.
