Public Relations Tips, Tricks, and Inspiration

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

In October The Public Relations Society of America got together for their annual National Conference and I recently got the opportunity to go to a seminar about the conference. Even if you are not a Public Relations major, there are a lot of great tips, tricks and inspirational quotes that I took away from the presentation.

1.  Do you depend on online reviews before you buy something? Did you know that 82% of people say their purchases are impacted by product reviews, but only 9% of people help create the content on Yelp! Also out of Twitters 500 Million users only 7% of users are the ones creating the content.

2. “Opportunity can be manufactured, Pre-arrange opportunities and take advantage of them!”- Biz Stone, Co-Founder/ Creator of Twitter. You can make opportunities present themselves, don’t wait for something to happen, make it happen.

3. “There is no substitute for face-to-face communications “- Tim Westergreen, Founder of Pandora. Maybe its time to put down your iPhone and get off social media, being able to effectively communicate face-to-face is essential to being successful.

4. “The Future is now.”- Tim Westergreen. What are you waiting for? Go after what you want, there is no time better than today to follow your dreams.

5.  “It is not always the outcome or the end, but the journey and the process.”- Michael Smart, PR professional and News Director for Brigham Young University.

6. The employee of the future has a wide array of skills.  You must be able to adapt to capitalize on opportunity. Make yourself stand out from the norm and learn something new! Take advantage of everything you can in order to diversify your skill set. The more adaptable you are, the more essential you are to a future employer.
