QU How To: Get Through the Last Page of your Syllabus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

The end of the semester can bring you into panic mode where every time you open your planner you feel like the work just keeps piling on. Here are a few tips on how to stay ahead of the game so as not to get overworked and to help you get through the last couple of weeks.

  1. Take a Breath– Sitting down for hours at a time, just going flipping from one subject to the next can make you exhausted and not want to even move on, so take a 20 minute breather.  If you’re in the library, leave your books at your study area and walk to the cafe, grab some candy and a soda and just chill out for a bit.  Stretching your legs and letting your blood flow will give you the energy you need to get through that last page.
  2. Hydrate Yourself– Have a glass of water by your side as you do your work.  Keeping yourself hydrated will keep your head from hurting due to dehydration and keep you focused.
  3. Don’t Drink too much Caffeine– Although they’ll keep you awake, coffee and energy drinks will cause you to have a major crash later.  Definitely try to avoid drinks like 5-Hour Energy shots and Red bulls, the effects of those can even go beyond a crash, they can cause irregular heartbeat and in extreme cases even heart attacks. Stick to your usual cup of java.
  4. Exercise- Taking an hour to hit the gym will release your stress and give you the energy to get through the day.  When you exercise, you release endorphins which are a natural energy high, so hit the gym whether it be for a half hour or two hours. Try not to study while you’re working out and focus on the workout. The gym is a place to forget your stress, not add to it.
  5. Change up your study place- With spring finally here, the warm weather is the perfect opportunity to get out and study on the quad.  Grab a blanket, your friends, some snacks, your books and find the perfect spot to study, but don’t forget to pack your sunglasses, the sun can be distracting and you don’t want to have to deal with the annoying glare on your glossy textbooks.
  6. Think ahead- The summer is only weeks away and all that’s separating you from the beach is the work, so remember that as you write your papers. Everyone is going through the same stress but in the end it will all pay off giving you the prefect excuse to spend the rest of your summer relaxing on the beach working on the prefect tan.
