The Room Service: A Beautiful Breakfast

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

We are now fully immersed in the Spring 2011 semester. And as the time we have left before midterms grows smaller and smaller, the germ count gets higher and higher! Stomach viruses, flu’s, and colds have taken Quinnipiac by storm! Many of us would like nothing more than to stay in bed all day watching TV shows and movies illegally online. But with the mounting workload, we have no choice but to bundle up and schlep our aching bodies over to the house of Arnold B.

Other than stocking up on the library’s complimentary hand sanitizer and Clorox wiping our kitchens and bathrooms to death, we must give our immune systems defensive artillery it really needs. It’s time to feed ourselves well, up our vitamin intake, and to drink as much water, tea, and orange juice as possible. Here are two recipes that will help us all to start the day off strong, and to give us the energy and vitamins we need to keep us going until the night classes are dismissed.

I’ll leave it to the two mother hen’s of the food industry to take care of our tired souls. Ina Garten, host and author of The Barefoot Contessa television show and cookbook series, is responsible for providing me with a recipe for the best pancakes I have EVER HAD! Her Banana Sour Cream Pancakes are incredible. The sour cream keeps them perfectly moist and the lemon zest enhances all the flavors in the batter. I must insist that you have pure maple syrup with these! Aunt Jemima doesn’t cut it for these babies.

Martha Stewart might not be the most matronly woman on TV, but her recipe for this Pom-Berry Banana Smoothie is just as useful as a Flinstone’s vitamins, and ten times tastier! This beverage is delicious and nutritious, and is completely natural and pure. Frozen berries are used to keep it frosty, instead of ice which water’s a smoothie down. This recipe takes a few minutes to make and provides you with tons of potassium, vitamin-C, and antioxidants.

Enjoy!
