To Thine Own Self Be True: The Four Girls at the Bar

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

Recently, I went to lunch with a really good guy friend of mine. This boy is a self-proclaimed “Hitch” or relationship doc. Besides getting lunch with a close friend, I used the opportunity to my advantage to pick his brain about how guys think of girls. Basically, Hitch gave me the guy perspective on college women.

During our conversation about women, Hitch mentioned something very interesting. “Sarah, there are four types of college women you meet in every bar”.  Honestly, I was skeptical. With millions of women in the world, how can you narrow down the female population into four categories?

Girl #1: The Taken Girl
The Taken Girl is the most obvious of the four. She is the girl that is visibly uncomfortable with the bar scene. She avoids eye contact with men, and is never EVER unaccompanied by her friends. If approached by a male, even in the most platonic fashion, he will be told within mere seconds (by either her or one of her friends) that she is taken.

Girl #2: The Girl Who Is Keeping An Eye Out
This one is open to the idea of hooking up but is really picky about who she chooses. If there are no promising opportunities, she is ok with going home alone. This girl usually is not the drunkest out of her group of friends, for fear of “beer goggles” syndrome.

Girl #3: The Girl Who Goes Out Looking To Hookup
This girl knows that she wants to go home with someone by the end of the evening. Unlike the second girl, she is not picky at all. She is usually found taking shots at the bar, dancing on the bar or getting in a cab with some guy.

Girl #4: The Unattainable One
This girl is always dancing, laughing and having fun with her friends. She will let you buy her a drink, but afterwards will politely thank you for it and then leave to rejoin her friends. AND THIS ladies, is the girl that guys have to work to get. They will bend over backwards to have a conversation with her, even in the loudest clubs.

As Hitch explained the four types, I found I could fit all of my girlfriends and even myself into one of the categories on any given night.  As much as I hate to admit it, the man was right.

After hearing about the four types of women, I began to look at my actions in bars a little differently. What type of girl did I want to be? What type of girl do you want to be?

Wishing you the faith in yourself, the hope for your future and maybe a little bit of love.

And many thanks to my Hitch <3
