Running for Student Body President is a huge responsibility. As a sophomore, Ben Cloutier is forging full speed ahead with confidence and charisma. Here’s a little information about Ben.
1. What made you want to go out for SGA when you came to QU? How long have you been on?
When I came to Quinnipiac, I wanted to get involved. I went to an information session for SGA and realized I could do so while also helping the community, and decided to run. I’ve been the President of the Class of 2013 for two straight years.
2. What do you think the student body needs?
The student body needs someone who’s not afraid to speak openly and frankly about student needs with administrators. The campus is growing, our community is growing, and ‘growing pains’ over the next couple of years are inevitable. We need someone who is honest, hardworking, and who looks out for the students, first and foremost. I believe I am that person.
3. What is your best trait?
I would say my best trait is my personality; I’m outgoing, personable, and reliable. I love meeting new people and I care about them.
4. What is one thing about QU you absolutely love?
I love the opportunities available to get involved on campus. From community service, to major specific clubs, to ethnic and cultural organizations, students of all interests have a chance to get involved.
Recognize the Blue and Gold hair on this drawing from athletic events? That’s Andrew McDermott, Ben’s opponent. McDermott is QU’s biggest fan. Here’s why.
1. What made you want to go out for SGA when you came to QU? How long have you been on?
Over the course of my freshman year, I attended all of the Student Government and Student Awareness Committee’s meetings. While I was not a member of SGA, I felt that I was making a difference on our campus by presenting concerns and ideas from the students and staying in the loop with everything that was going on around campus. My passion for this organization really came about then, and the rest is history!
I’ve been on SGA for two years; last year I was a Sophomore Class Representative and served on the Student Awareness Committee, and this year I am the Junior Class President and am serving on the President’s and Vice President’s Committee.
2. What do you think the student body needs?
Our student body needs a President who will work towards gaining better student representation within decisions regarding our University. This President should also be a bridge between the administration and the students, ensuring that students are aware of what is happening around campus. Our student body needs a President who is involved on campus, who can understand the frustrations that our fellow students are feeling, and who can work to make a difference for the Quinnipiac community.
3. What is your best trait?
My best trait is my passion and dedication for our University. I have gotten to where I am today because of the 110% I give everything that I set my mind to. Whether it’s staying up all night to work on something or putting on a wig and running back and forth behind the hoop at the basketball games, nothing gets in the way of me putting my heart into whatever I set my mind to!
4. What is one thing about QU you absolutely love?
I absolutely love the sense of community that is found here at Quinnipiac. While we are a growing population of 5,700 undergraduates that are spread across three campuses, you can feel the inclusivity of being a member of our Quinnipiac community.
Good Luck Gentlemen!
