Most people have heard the drastic change in Miley Cyrus’ music from her days as teen pop star, Hannah Montana, to a more edgy, twerking, “Bangerz”album. Miley has made a full circle to her most sophisticated music yet.
Miley’s new album is mature and captures Miley’s feelings and thoughts, as she wrote seven of the eleven songs on the album herself. “Malibu” was the first single dropped off this album, and it was a hit. The song climbed to the top 10 charts fast. Malibu is of course about her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, who she met on the set of the movie “The Last Song”. The song allowed Miley to take their relationship back into their own hands, and allow people, that are going to talk about her relationship, to talk about what she wants. This song was the start of a “back to basics” transition for Miley.
On September 29th Younger Now was released, and climbed high on the charts. Miley collaborated with Dolly Parton, famous country singer, on “Rainbowland”. This song breaks down barriers of social inequalities within genders and religion. The song encourages people who may be viewed as “different” to stay different but come together. Many songs on this album really show the relationship between Liam and Miley, and the bumps and bruises they have hit along the way. Songs such as “I Would Die For You”, “Bad Mood”, and “Love Someone” are songs that have yet to be confirmed but sources say about Liam Hemsworth.
My personal favorite song on the album is the last song “Inspired”. This song is a cry for help, and encourages listeners that this world needs more love in it and is also in celebration of Pride. There is a lot of hate in the world, and Miley asks “if anyone is watching us down here”, which in light of recent events, a lot of people have been asking. Overall the album combines Miley’s country roots, and pop persona into the person she has become now. No matter what Miley does, she is going to get criticized for it, but she simply does not care anymore, and that’s really powerful. I think a lot of people can connect with the passion and meaning behind Miley’s words on this album.
