All the Single Ladies: Making Valentine’s Day Pink, Not Blue

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rhodes chapter.

So you’re single and it’s Valentine’s Day…What’s the big deal? Have fun with it! Get your friends together and live up the single life. Here are a couple ideas:

1. Dinner: Get the girls together and go to the Rat for the Valentine’s Day Dinner! We’ve all noticed the dining experience improve, so who knows what we can expect for one of the famous holiday dinners. Sit with the girls, eat, and take some time to indulge in some “rat-sitting.”

2. Movie Night: Follow your dinner plans by putting on your comfy (preferably pink or red) pajamas and watch a movie or TV show. As far as movies go, a classic for the single girls is John Tucker Must Die, or consider changing things up with a non-romantic comedy. Despite the fact that I’m a sucker for Audrey Hepburn classics, consider steering clear of the perfect romance?

3. Treats: No girls’ night is complete without the appropriate treats. A big bowl of popcorn is always a great movie snack, but let’s to something different for the holiday. Buy some traditional chocolates, bake some heart shaped cookies or try this festive idea for Valentine Chex Mix from Pillsbury.

4. Drinks: Halmark holidays count as yet another excuse for some fun drinks, so take a break from the usual and splurge a little for something new! Or go out and get yourself some blush or red wine.

BACARDI PINK SQUEEZE
1-1/2 oz. Bacardi Light Rum
Pink Lemonade

1. Pour Rum into tall glass filled with ice.
2. Fill with Pink Lemonade.

RASPBERRY FLIRTINI
1 part VOX Raspberry Vodka
1/2 part Chambord
1 part Champagne (float)

Mix in shaker half-filled with ice:
VOX Raspberry Vodka and Chambord.
Pour into a champagne flute and top with Champagne.
Garnish with fresh raspberries.

5. Entertainment: In the spirit of keeping the night girly as can be, have your iTunes ready to accompany your new drinks. Play some Michael Buble (Haven’t Met You Yet) and depending on your situation this season, Cee-Lo Green’s latest hit, F*** You. Just keep in mind that it is a Monday night, so you don’t want to get any of those noise violations…

Do everyone a favor, and acknowledge all of the pros to being single. You’re okay with being single every other day of the calendar year! Don’t get me wrong, having a Valentine is great, but so is having a good night with your friends. So make it pink, not blue, and keep it fun.
