Her Campus Rhodes (HCR): When did you feel yourself starting to develop a personal style as opposed to following trends or dressing how others wanted you to dress?
Annie Hohlt (AH): Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved fashion. I learned a lot about my personal style through observation and imitation (the sincerest form of flattery!) of others’ outfits. I love combining different pieces together, and I started to develop my own sense of style through these experiences. I choose to wear what is most comfortable and will make me feel confident to conquer the day’s challenges. Â
HCR: Can you describe your style to me?
AH:Â Simple, comfortable, and classy! Â
HCR: What/who are your style influences or icons?
AH: Definitely Kate Middleton, I love everything she wears, and Audrey Hepburn—she’s a classic!
HCR: How do you decide what to wear every morning?
AH: I have a few staples in my wardrobe, like certain tops, sweaters, and pairs of jeans, and I mix-and-match or even repeat outfits that I like until I figure out new combinations that I enjoy.
HCR: What are your must-have fashion items?
AH: Pearl studs, my favorite vintage brocade clutch (it was my grandmother’s), a black dress, nude pumps, cream cardigan, skinny jeans, and my running watch (I can’t survive the day without it!).
HCR: What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is trying to find their personal style?
AH: No one can tell you how to dress, it’s all about the feeling you get when you put an outfit on in the morning. If it feels good, it will look fantastic because you will be confident wearing it! Confidence is the best accessory anyone can have.
HCR: And finally, what is the worst fashion mistake you’ve made?
AH: One time, I cut up my mom’s vintage floral corduroy skirt and it totally backfired. It ended up being too short and was not flattering at all! Â
