Every day walking down the quarter mile, students will find tables and booths occupied by their fellow students. Typically these tables and booths are set up to raise money for different causes or to promote upcoming events.
Then a week ago, RIT was occupied.
Now every day walking down the quarter mile from 11 to 1, students will see the rally to Occupy RIT. Following the movement of Occupy Wall Street, numerous students gather to support the cause. “I’ve had enough. I’ve finally come to the tipping point and I refuse to stand by and let corporate run everything,” said Basma Eid, a third year student at RIT, “We can’t just complain without doing something. We have to put our words into action.”
This is why every day you’ll find Basma and her fellow occupants chanting about America’s need to “feed the poor” and “tax the rich.”
Basma went on to say, “I think people need to know that we’re not just a bunch of rebel-rousing college students. To dismiss this movement is bullshit.”
All of those Occupying RIT will be out by the Eastman Kodak Quad every day until something is done about the protests occurring on Wall Street and all throughout the world.
