It was a good week for the RIT Women’s Hockey team last week. Not only did they win their first NCAA Division III Championship after a 28-1-1 season, but they also announced that they will officially be moving up to Division I starting the 2012-2013 season.
The Women’s Hockey team will be one of six new schools joining the CHA (College Hockey American) conference for the 2012-2013 season. They were originally planned to move up to Division I starting the 2013-2014 season, but after Niagara dropped out on Monday, the Women’s Hockey team were asked to make the move up to Division I a little early. They will be playing a 20 game conference schedule next season, playing against the likes of Syracuse, Sacred Heart and Mercyhurst.
Over the last two seasons, the Women’s Hockey team has dominated the Division III arena. They have come out with 54 wins, 3 losses, and 3 ties over the last two seasons, with only one loss and one tie this latest season. Needless to say, it was about time that they moved up to their level.
Good luck and congratulations to all of the girls on the RIT Women’s Hockey team. May you have a wonderful first season as a Division I team.
