With the recent release of “Dune,” there has been a lot of discussion about actor Timothée Chalamet and his talents. Timothee Chalamet is the 25-year-old “stealing every girl’s heart” these days. But is he really talented or just really attractive?
As someone who has seen a majority of Mr. Chalamet’s films, in my opinion, he is both of these things and deserves to be respected as much as any actor. Especially with his level of talent, he should not seen as just another pretty face. However, because of the age and gender of his fanbase, he does not receive that respect. So, let’s discuss his talent via his films.
Chalamet’s Films
Call Me By Your Name
His breakout role was in the Academy Award winning “Call Me By Your Name.” Timothée first showcased his talents here and it was truly beautiful, and not only because of his face.
Timothée Chalamet’s talents were shown to the world in this film and it skyrocketed him to fame. His performance was heart-wrenching and incredible to watch.
Hot Summer Nights
He followed this film with “Hot Summer Nights” which is a less known indie drama. This film allowed him to once again show his ability to give an extremely emotional side.
Lady Bird
This film was a huge hit and showed a completely different side of his acting. Chalamet gave a cold, sarcastic performance, unlike his previous impassioned films.
Other successes…
The hits just kept coming for Chalamet after that. He starred in several more hugely successful films such as “Beautiful Boy,” “The King,” and “Little Women.” He is working with hugely famous directors such as Greta Gerwig and Wes Anderson.
So, why is he still questioned and doubted by a large portion of serious film lovers?
The answer is his demographic, but why?
Chalamet is loved by young girls, understandably, for his good looks. But, for some reason, this causes him to lose respect in the world of serious film industry. To me, this is largely related to the idea that people do not respect the thoughts and opinions of young women, even though they are huge consumers of the media.
For this reason, Timothée loses some respect because of his fanbase, but, at the same time, that fanbase is a huge advantage to him. The fanbase is extremely loyal and brings a large amount of money into his films, which then makes him more appealing to be hired. It seems his demographic is an unfair hinderance and a fortunate benefit.
Accept the fanbase and appreciate
In the end, no matter your opinion on him, it is a fact that Timothée Chalamet is on the rise and will continue to be a prominent face in the film industry.
In my opinion, “Dune” was phenomenal and I am looking forward to seeing Mr. Chalamet in “The French Dispatch” next. Timothée has an extremely diverse portfolio, so I must suggest that everybody give him a chance and look beyond his appearance and who watches his movies. Treat yourself this weekend and see one of his new films, you will not regret it.
