Costumes of Halloweens Past

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Halloween is almost here. Although you may be too old for trick-or-treating, there are still plenty of opportunities for you to dress up. Many of us will be attending Halloween parties or events — you can even dress up to give out candy. It’s always so hard to pick a costume. For me, I usually have quite a few that I struggle to choose from. Some people can’t think of any. As this Halloween draws near, I’ll be walking you guys through some of my Halloween costumes. Maybe they’ll help inspire you or just make you laugh.Ā

Here’s an old classic. Yes, that adorable baby is me. No, I don’t know what happened. So as a wee one, Teletubbies was one of my favorite shows. My favorite color is yellow so obviouslyĀ Lala was my favorite. I’m not ashamed of it. Now, my mom whipped this costume together for me and it might be hard for you to replicate. However, consider something from your childhood to have a really nostalgic costume.Ā

Let’s get one thing straight: I do not condone clowns. I also did not consent to be dressed as a clown, as pictured above. In fact, I was probably terrified of clowns at the time it was taken. There’s a long story about my older brothers making me watch IT and then dragging me out of bed in the middle of the night while wearing clown masks. We won’t get into it now though. Halloween is about being scary and nothing is scarier than a clown. Even other clowns hate clowns. Also, with the new IT out, clowns will clearly be making aĀ resurgance. Get ready, people.Ā

This one’s more of a reach and we all know it. I’m also much less cute here. My trivia team and I dressed as characters from Gossip Girl for a TV themed trivia night. From left to right we have Blair, Serena, Chuck, and Georgina. Always consider a group costume! Everything is more fun when you do it in a group. Although ours is a little lame, yours can be as creative as you like.Ā

Is this from snapchat? Yes, yes it is. Bear with me here. On the right, you can see me as a bunny. Just a plain bunny. Ears and tails are earsily accesible at any costume store. My friend Haley on the left is dressed as a bee. She also wore a sign that read “Save the Bees.” Look to the Animal Kingdom for your costume this year — and make sure you make a pun about it.Ā

Get gory! My roommate Marissa and I actually went to rival high schools. For Halloween, we decided to wear our school uniforms, but also make it look like our school rivalry has led us to violently murder each other. Fake blood is pretty cheap, folks. We owned the rest of it. Make sure you take a look into your closet at what you already own before you start buying things for a costume.

You guys know I love a good book. Accordingly, I think literature is a great place to get your costumes. Here I am as Nancy Drew with my pals Karthik and Ed as the Hardy Boys, even though we had not coordinated our costumes. We were ready to solve some mysteries. What’s your favorite book? Maybe you can be a character from there. (Think of Hermoines, Katnisses, or even Mice with Cookies.)

Hopefully, a glimpse into my past Halloweens has helped you get ready for yours!
