Jonathan Pepper, senior public relations major, advises younger students to network to get opportunities they want and help them further their career. He has interned with Campbell’s Soup, where he will be returning this semester,  and had the opportunity to participate in the Special Olympics National Games this summer, fullfilling both his personal interests and professional aspirations.

Campbell Internship

Jon was a full-time intern and worked in the Global Communications department which means he worked with a variety of brands on internal and external communications. He also worked with brand managers to execute product launches (i.e. Soups for Easy Cooking).

“I worked with extremely talented people who have strong backgrounds in communications and I worked on campaigns bigger than I could have ever dreamed.”

Jon even met with Denise Morrison (the CEO) TWICE!

Jon learned how to work collaboratively with different departments (i.e. the Creative, Construction, Brand Managers, etc.) and overall realized in-house PR can be fun and rewarding.

Advice: “You can find room in your position to do what you love (i.e. I was able to write for the internal newsletter)”

Special Olympics Experience

Jon describes his experience participating in the Special Olympics National Games as the highglight of his summer.

“Special Olympics taught me that you can do work that matters, that changes lives and makes them better. You can use your talents and interests to do some good in the world.”

He loved spending the entire week with awesome people and the award ceremony, where his team won the gold! He also wrote an article about his experience and it was placed in the Philadelphia Inquirer (with help from Rosie Braude).

Current Experience
  • President of PRSSA
  • Returning to Campbell to intern again
  • Playing Unified on campus
Advice for younger students
  1. Network network network! I found this great opportunity with Campbell Soup Company because of my connections (through PRSSA) and it elevated my career to a whole new level.

     2. Dive right in. Don’t hesitate. Take on a little more than you think you can handle. As long as you have the drive to make it happen, you’ll find a way

     3. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/find a mentor. The greatest thing I got out of Campbell is a great support network from everyone I worked with.
