Randy Myer- Rowan Alumni

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Waiting for Randy Meyer to sit down with me for this interview was like waiting for in line to meet your favorite Disney World character.  Every person in the student center wanted to meet the guitar player and lead singer of We Speak in Sounds after the band played a set Friday Night.  And with every person he met, he smiled brightly, and talked to them as if they have been friends for years.

Randy, 23, graduated last year from Rowan University, but had his homecoming Friday Night with his band.  After he greeted every person in the room, he sat down with me and answered a few questions about his love for music, teaching, and the school he used to call home.

HC:  You graduated from Rowan last year.  What degree did you graduate with, and what are you doing now with that degree?

RM: I graduated with a degree in Health and Physical Education, and I am currently a student teaching, teaching physical education from pre-K to 8th graders.  I feel like I’ve been missing out since I have been working full time, but I’m having a lot of fun.  I’m glad I got my degree, because no one can take that away from me.

HC: What is We Speak in Sound’s biggest accomplishment to date?

RM: Winning the chance to play at the 104.5 birthday show, and open for Third Eyed Blind.  It was definitely a really cool feeling.

HC: What does it mean to you to play at Rowan not as students, but as musicians?

RM: It’s awesome because we were treated as any other act, and we went through the same process that any other band would go through if they played here. We were treated as professionals.

HC: What is your favorite Rowan memory?

RM: Becoming really close friends with everyone in my major.  Once you get into your classes junior year you share the same classes with the same group of people.  Every one was friends and acted like family, and my major was a lot fun too.

HC: What do you see yourself doing five years from now?

RM: I hope I’m teaching elementary school physical education, and still continuing the band.  I especially hope to be living with and be surrounded by friends all the time.
