Dream Job with the NJ Devils: Jeff Orlando

Updated Published
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Jeff Orlando’s dream has just come true.  Sports Management major, class of spring 2011, Jeff just recently started his internship with the New Jersey Devils. All his life, he says, he has had an intense interest in sports, which made choosing a major at RU a simple task. Jeff landed this too-good-to-be-true internship through his Sports Marketing professor, Mike Finkelstein. It turns out that a member of the Human Resources department for the Devils is a Rutgers alumnus, and had been in contact with Professor Finkelstein. It was obvious that Jeff was the perfect candidate for the internship, so his professor hooked him up. After coming confidently out of three interviews, Jeff was successful in landing a position as assistant to the Devils president. Jeff’s duties for the team involve everything from marketing and sales to assisting in miscellaneous tasks. He is the go-to guy when it comes to game days as well. Jeff is the coordinator of the silent auctions for the Devils, so he is in charge of selecting memorabilia that will be offered and what their starting prices will be. He can be seen on the floor during intermission collecting bids for the auction as well. Definite perks, he says, are getting to watch all the free hockey games he wants, sometimes in the fire lounge to get a prime view, and occasionally interacting with the players themselves.  Jeff says he thinks he has a bright future with the NJ Devils; he hopes this incredible opportunity will develop into an official job offer after his graduation.
