Rutgers football is the cornerstone of fall semester fun. Game days are unmistakable. As you drive to Busch Campus and see the High Point Solution Stadium in the distance, all you can focus on is the mobs of people in red crowding the campus. RU Rah Rah chants are heard from every direction as students tailgate in preparation for the game. From kickoff to the last whistle blown in the game, you can feel the school pride and excitement in the air.
Although, in the midst of this fun, some students and fans take part of the heavy consumption of alcohol and greasy foods. These unhealthy activities are not good for those who are trying to lose weight. However, there are ways for tailgating fans to have fun while keeping the momentum they may have towards losing weight and working out.
PRE Football Game Workouts:
-
On a nice day, there is plenty of time to go for a twenty-minute run before the game and its festivities. Twenty minutes is the perfect amount time. Itʼs just enough time to quickly burn a decent amount of calories right before pre-game rituals, such as tailgates.
-
When you arrive to the game by bus, there is a hill in front of the stadium that leads fans to the tailgates. DO NOT AVOID THIS HILL. It is steep enough that you can definitely feel the burn in your thighs whenever you walk up it. This is a great way to burn off some calories right before the game!

POST Football Game Workouts:
-
Usually after the game ends, thereʼs a huge line for the buses that take fans back to the various Rutgers campuses. This even happens when fans leave at halftime. Whatʼs a great way to avoid this long line and get a workout simultaneously? Walking! You can walk back to all three of the other Rutgers campuses from Busch campus. Itʼs a long enough walk that you are getting a workout, but not so long that youʼll regret deciding to walk. Thereʼs beautiful nature to pass by and admire and if you go with friends, it can be a lot of fun! You can talk about the game and spend time working on your fitness that you would have wasted waiting for a bus.

After a long day at the game, fans get pretty tired! So instead of an intense workout, you can do something small that still will burn some calories and be effective. If you go on Tumblr, you can find plenty of images with lists of quick and efficient exercises you can do. For example, I found these two and they both work great:
After a football game, your body has just enough energy for simple workouts such as these. This is a great way to fit some exercise into your schedule after cheering on our fellow Scarlet Knights!
So on game day remember, this does not have to be a day when you tell yourself you do not have time to workout. You do! Just use these tips and you can still watch our team chop our opponents while having the ability to #CHOP some pounds down too!
