Saturday mornings are usually spent sleeping in or having a big breakfast. You can do both of those at RUPA Presents: Scarlet Day of Service which is hosted every semester! Not only do you get a free t-shirt, breakfast, and lunch, but you also get the amazing feeling of helping your community.
This semester, I went to the Spotswood Reformed Church and aided them in creating an outdoor gazebo. I joined a team of seven members and we took the yellow school bus to the church. There we met some of the people who volunteered at the church, and they instructed us on what the church is all about and how the church was formed.
Later, we moved to the front yard and helped them dig a hole that was 10 feet by 10 feet in size and was 3 inches deep. After we shoveled, raked, and leveled out the ground, we filled it with rocks and aided the volunteers in setting up a border. The volunteers at the small church looked to be older adults and really appreciated our help. They were very happy to have us and thankful for all the efforts we put in throughout the afternoon.ย
On the way back, some of us enjoyed a nice nap and some of us chatted or exchanged numbers. Overall, this event was a perfect way to spend my weekend on campus and also proved to be a refreshing study break. I would definitely want to attend this event next semester to get the chance to meet more people and help the community!
