What Your Favorite Flower Says About You

Spring is here, and if you are anything like me, you love to garden and watch the flowers bloom. Flowers are especially magnificent in the spring to bring some light and color to the last dark and gloomy winter days. I find that flowers have a lot to do with personality, especially the type of flower you favor. I am not a psychology expert, but I have observed and noted which types of people around me like certain flowers. In a way, I find this to be more telling than anything else—flowers show which color pallettes people prefer and can indicate what they perceive as beautiful. 

1. Rose 

Roses are classical flowers that are most closely attributed to romance. Of course, there are both pink and red roses—both of which are gorgeous in their regard. People who prefer red roses are hopeless romantics who value beauty and delicacy. People who like pink roses are romantics indeed, but are also independent and do not necessarily need a partner. In either case, due to the delicate nature of the flower, people who prefer roses are more delicate. But alas, beware of the rose’s thorns! As delicate and loving as rose lovers may be, they are also very private and protective of themselves. The thorns represent protection and defense. 

2. Peony 

Okay, Blair Waldorf fans have entered the chat! Peonies are stunning flowers—I would argue more so than the rose. Peony lovers have a taste for luxury and have expensive tastes. This is one of the most costly flowers, selling for about $18 apiece. If you are a peony lover, you either have Blair Waldorf’s money or a Chuck Bass supplying you with these flowers! Even though they are so expensive, peonies are very hardy and easy to grow flowers. Therefore, peony fans are not only luxurious but also strong-willed, determined, and adaptable people. 

3. Sunflower 

We have all heard millions of songs about sunflowers. From Post Malone to Harry Styles, sunflowers seem to be a favorite when describing women. In my experience, people who prefer sunflowers are delighted and optimistic. Their positivity goes further and more profound than conventional motivational phrases, though. Sunflower lovers have an indescribable warmth and are genuine, wholesome people. Sunflower lovers are also a little quirky but are uniquely reflective and empathetic. Sunflower lovers are the oddballs, great friends to support others and make things interesting. 

4. Violet 

Violets are stunning yet more subtle flowers. They are not the kind of flower you would put into a bouquet as they are more of a natural wildflower. Yet violets make excellent houseplants if you can meet their demands for growing. Violet lovers are strong-willed and determined girl bosses. They have high needs because they know their worth. Violets are known for being native to tropical areas. Therefore, violet lovers are people who love warm weather and natural climates. 

5. Orchid 

Orchids are breathtaking and expensive flowers. They are usually sold in single denominations with a fancy flower pot. They have a sweet smell and beautiful pink coloring. Orchid lovers give off major old money vibes. They know how classy it is to have fresh flowers in their homes. They are also fierce and independent people who can survive on their own. Orchid lovers have a sweet tooth, are more feminine, love classic films, and have a chic glam vibe. 

6. Poppies 

Poppies have a vibrant red color that makes them stand out more than any other flower. You can spot them from miles away because of how bright their coloring is. Like violets, they are better known for being garden flowers than bouquet flowers. Poppy lovers are complex and introspective people. The poppy has been used to symbolize death and remembrance. They also have reincarnation, sleep, regeneration, and eternal life messages. Van Gogh himself had painted poppies in some of his works. Poppy lovers are deep and more introverted. They are very conscious of their world and are always looking for deeper meanings. A poppy lover is not an optimist or a pessimist—they are realists who understand how things work and look for the most practical solutions to situations. 

7. Daisy 

Daisies are ubiquitous flowers grown in gardens and used in bouquets. While they are rather minimalist and inexpensive, they add an excellent and classic touch. They are simple, delicate, and beautiful. People who favor daisies have a soft, chic aesthetic vibe. I would even say that it’s very “that girl” to love daisies. Daisy lovers are outdoorsy and health-conscious. They like to dress in lighter colors and keep themselves clean and polished.
