This past year was unlike any other for music. Some artists had plans to release an album, but decided to wait. Some wrote music about what was going on in the world and shared it with us. And some kept on working and delivered us some great music, helping us all through the horrendous year. Here are my top five favorite albums of the past year.Â
Â
1. FUTURE NOSTALGIA- DUA LIPA
This album has become one of my favorites ever. It is rare to find an album that is so good from top to bottom without any skips necessary. Released right as the pandemic was spreading throughout the world, this album gave a sense of light and fun in a time of darkness. Everyone knew the single “Don’t Start Now” released the previous year, whether it be from Tik Tok or the radio, but Dua Lipa delivered an amazing sophomore album that combines old school disco with futuristic club-like beats.Â
Â
2. FINE LINE- HARRY STYLES
Technically this album was released at the very end of 2019, but it also had quite an impact in 2020. Another amazing sophomore album by Harry Styles that has hit after hit. This album has songs that are perfect to dance or drive around to, like “Golden”but also songs that really make you feel all the feelings, like “Falling”.Â
Â
3. PLASTIC HEARTS- MILEY CYRUS
This album was definitely a pleasant surprise. I was a little worried when Miley said she was going for a rock album that it wouldn’t be for me, but Plastic Hearts still has a 2000s style pop feel to it. The rock influence works perfectly without losing her roots in being a popstar. “WTF Do I Know” is a must listen, and more than likely about Liam Hemsworth.Â
Â
4. THE SLOW RUSH- TAME IMPALA
Not having released an album in five years, Tame Impala’s The Slow Rush was definitely worth the wait. All about the concept of time, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala brings a whole album of amazingly produced music. “It Might Be Time” and “Lost in Yesterday” are stand-outs.Â
