The Emmys proved doing a (somewhat) virtual awards show is possible back in September, giving the award season hope for 2021. Well, last Sunday the Golden Globe Awards show aired and was hosted once again by the hilarious duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The show looked quite different this year, as those accepting the awards are sitting at home just like us. Despite technical difficulties and an awkward acknowledgement from the Hollywood Foreign Press due to their lack of diversity, it was exciting to see the best shows and movies of 2020 recognized.Â
Â
Funny enough, most of the big television and movie wins of the night are ones I have not seen yet. The Crown took home quite a few awards for their latest season, as well as the limited-series The Queen’s Gambit. It was no surprise Schitt’s Creek swept the comedy categories as they did previously at the Emmys. These are three shows that I know have been very popular that are on my list to watch! Some other shows that were nominated and I really enjoyed this past year were The Undoing and Normal People. Â
Â
As for movies, Nomadland took home best motion picture, which is predicted to win at the Oscars as well. Chloe Zhao became the second female director ever to win the director category for this film, which is so exciting. The late Chadwick Boseman won best actor in a motion picture for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. His wife accepted the award on his behalf, which was quite a tear-jerking moment. Other winners such as The Mauritarian, I Care A Lot and Minari are films I have not seen but look forward to watching. I enjoyed Soul, the latest Pixar movie that left us all reflecting about our life choices. Overall, I left after watching ready to indulge in these critically-acclaimed movies and series!
