The holidays are just around the corner, and one of the most wonderful things about this season is spending time with your friends and family. Specifically, it’s the traditions and festive activities that always seem to add a sense of magic to the season. Since the pandemic has prevented many of these activities from happening these past few years, it’s been difficult to experience them to their full potential, which is why I’ve compiled a list of some hidden gems near the city you can visit this year. Not only are these places accessible to those who live within or outside the GTA, but they are definitely photo-worthy. You can thank me later for the new additions to your Instagram feed.
Burlington Festival Of Lights
Located at Spencer Smith Park in Burlington, this festival showcases a variety of themed light displays open to visitors along the park’s waterfront. The festival runs from Nov. 26 all the way to Jan. 8 and is open daily from 4 pm to midnight. Admission is free, so if you’re ever looking for something to do with your friends one night, this is the place to go.
Niemi Family Farm’s Outdoor Christmas Market
If you have a sweet tooth or are looking to do some Christmas shopping, the Niemi Family Farm, located in Mount Albert, has a Christmas Market filled with various activities and local sellers. You can meet Santa, have a bonfire, buy some handmade crafts or traditional Finnish bakery items and even pick your own Christmas tree. The market runs three days a week from Nov. 12 to Dec. 22, so if you’re looking for a market with a diverse range of things to do, check out their website for more information.
Clembrook Christmas Farm
Want a memorable way to pick a Christmas tree with your family this year? Look no further than the Clembrook Christmas Farm! Located in Milton within a scenic farm known for its family photoshoot sessions, you can purchase cut-your-own and pre-cut trees, but if you’re looking for something quick, you can also get your tree through curb-side pickup. They recommend coming during the week from noon to 7 pm in order to avoid lineups, and while they won’t be having their usual wagon rides, bonfires or other activities this year, the atmosphere is still a great experience.
The Canadian Tire Christmas Trail
This one is a local favourite and usually sells out every year. Located within the grounds of Black Creek Pioneer Village in North York, you can enjoy fun, interactive light displays and live entertainment, according to their website, without even leaving your vehicle. And the best part — you can even get a picture with Santa! The cost is $25.00 + HST per vehicle, and all tickets must be purchased online beforehand. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, but if you have any more questions, make sure to check out the helpful frequently asked questions section on their website.
If you decide to visit any of these places, hopefully they will make the holidays even more memorable for you!
