Recently MTV’s Girl Code star, Nicole Byer, graced Sacred Heart University students with her presence. Thanks to Sacred Heart’s Student Events Team, I had the privilege of asking Byer a few questions prior to her hilarious stand-up comedy show.
Amen.
GG: What is it like to work on a TV show?
NB: It’s fun to get paid to do something you love. It’s sort of odd because there is little prep and no script. I think one of my favorite things has to be when I can make someone [on the Girl Code crew] laugh. I know I’m doing a good job based on how hard they are laughing [behind the scenes] and that makes me feel good.
GG: What advice do you have for a college girl?
NB: You can say no to whatever you want. Just because everyone is doing something doesn’t mean you have to also. Be your own person. Just you do you. Find yourself. It is important to be OK with being alone.
GG: What is your number one girl code ?
NB: Don’t be a d*ck. Don’t be an a**hole. Don’t get catty and nasty. Honestly, no one likes a jerk.
GG: How did you find yourself in this career?
NB: Well, I did plays in high school, and then I went to acting school for two years. There, I fell in love with improv which made me realize how much I loved making people laugh.
GG: What is your dream job?
NB: This is my dream job. I never really let myself picture anything about my future. I guess I would say that I have always lived very presently.
GG: What is something you would say to a stressed out college student?
NB: Breathe, chill out. Lol, I didn’t even go to real college.
Nicole Byer, we love you. Girl Code.
