Important Reminder For This Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

The Holidays Season is finally here! No matter what you celebrate, I am sure that when you go home and are surrounded by family and questions are asked such as ‘How is College?’ ‘Do you have a plan for where you want to work after you graduate?’ ‘What do you want to do with your life after college?’

Here is your daily reminder that you don’t have to have it all figured out.

“Trust the wait, Embrace the Uncertainty, Enjoy the beauty of becoming”

I saw this quote on Pinterest the other day and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how relevant it is.

I’m that girl who has 3 different planners, and makes sticky notes about every single I have to do each day. How could I ever embrace uncertainty?!

I love planning every part of my day that I can. However, throughout this past semester, I have learned that you can’t always have everything planned out.

Sometimes with exams, friend groups, campus involvement, family life, roommates, etc. it can be hard to cope with not knowing where things will go.

It can also be hard to wait for things.

Whether it’s hearing how you did on a test, or even waiting for the ‘perfect’ person to come along, waiting is often easier said than done. However, time after time I find that everything that you must wait for, is usually worth the wait in the end. Things I used to think I needed at a certain point in my life, were meant to come at their own time.

Lastly, this quote says “Enjoy the beauty of becoming”. This line struck me the most because sometimes I am in such a rush to get to where I want to be, that I forget to look around once in a while.

I am definitely guilty of always reflecting on how things used to be, or how I want them to be, instead of how they are right now.

When we can embrace and appreciate where we are in the present moment, we can have a greater understanding of how far we’ve come.

Yesterday, I passed a spot a spot on campus where just 2 years ago (when I was a freshman) I remember calling my mom and crying telling her I wanted to come home. To be able to walk by that same spot with a confident smile on my face with who I am now and who I have grown-into throughout my college experience was one of the most satisfying things for me.

So when you go home for Winter Break, remember to Embrace the Uncertainty, & enjoy the beauty of becoming. You don’t have to have it all figured out.
