My Internship with Little Words Project

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

Scrolling through Instagram, you normally expect to see pictures of puppies, your friends, and exotic places you will never get to go.  What I did not expect to see the last week of school was a picture from one of my FAVORITE jewelry companies, Little Words Project, looking for summer interns.

Little Words Project is a startup jewelry company that was founded by Adriana Botti.  It is a company whose main goal is to promote kindness between women of all ages.  The Little Words Project team is made up of five amazingly strong women who make it cool to be the “nice girl”.

After seeing their post I instantly texted my mom “this is where I need to be this summer”.  They were looking for someone who had a positive connection to the brand, was studying communications, was interested in seeking more experience in social media and public relations, and wanted to see what it was like to work for a startup company.  All of which I would die to do if it meant getting to work at a place like this.

So, I sent in my app, went for an interview and the rest is history!

I had a summer internship experience like no other.

Right off the bat, I got to dive into the public relations aspect of a small business.  I helped plan the grand opening of their office space in Caldwell, New Jersey where I went to talk with other small business’ in the area asking if they were interested in working with Little Words Project.  I researched bloggers and vloggers and sent them bracelets so they could take photos in them for our content.  Sitting in on conference calls with photographers was one of my favorite parts.  I got to hear what creating content and line sheets was like from start to finish.  I practiced writing press releases and got to see what it was like to plan for the holiday season in July!

Learning the secrets of their production process was also a cool aspect.  I was given the opportunity to come up with new words for different lines, create new styles, and even name a few!  Making the bracelets start to finish, sending them out, and even getting to see how the bracelets brightened people’s days was so rewarding.

Overall, I could not have asked for a better summer internship.  I learned more about not only my field of work and how a small business works but how important team work is and having a positive work environment is to people’s everyday lives.  These women helped my life in so many ways and I am more confident in my daily life and skills than ever before.

If you are ever looking for a little piece of encouragement to wear and remind yourself that you are worth it definitely go and check out this amazing company!
