The Struggle of Being 20 (When All Your Friends Are 21)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

Don’t you love that feeling of adulthood and knowing there are no limitations to your fun… oh wait, you’re not a member of the 21 club yet. We can all agree that 20 is arguably the age of so much FOMO it actually becomes annoying. Your friends have all posted their birthday pictures on Instagram featuring the huge metallic balloons that you can’t miss. That inflatable 2 and 1- put them together and they provide the gateway to not being stuck at 20 years young any longer. If you are 20 and waiting for what seems to be the longest year leading up to your next birthday, here’s to you.

You feel like a bother being that friend who always asks for alcohol.

You go out with your friends to dinner, and while they are getting mixed drinks, you order water.

Going shopping with your friends; they buy cute outfits for the bar while you buy new PJs to lounge in.

Your friends accidentally invite you to go out with them to the bar, but then remember you aren’t 21.

You get excited when they want to spend the night in having wine night.

You help all your friends who are 21 get ready and send them off like a mom.

Most nights you only get to go to the pregame with them, and then you part ways. They go to a club, and you go to the house party full of freshman.

You are always the designated driver and are expected to take care of your sick friends.

Counting down the days until your 21st birthday like:

But when that glorious day comes this will be you and your friends!

So there you have it. 20 might just be the worst age, but it will make 21 that much better. Cheers to you making it through!
