This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Saint Mary's chapter.

February is Black History Month, a month dedicated to remembering and honoring the stories and history of Black Americans. Here are ten ways you can celebrate Black History Month regardless of your identity.

1. Buy books written by Black authors, such as Poet Luareate Tracy K. Smith.

2. Watch films with Black protagonists, directors, and/or producers.

3. Learn about the #BlackLivesMatter Movement

4. Shop from Black-owned small businesses

5. Donate to organizations which advocate for the preservation of Black history, such as the Museum of African American History

6. Donate to organizations which seek to increase welfare opportunities in Black communities, such as Black Girls Code

7. Listen to speeches given by Black people, such as MLK, then learn more about the speaker’s platform and activist work.

8. If you’re white, acknowledge ways priviledge has affected you.

9. Share articles about Black history online.

10. Learn about more activist movements started by Black people, such as #MeToo and the Stonewall Riots
