How did you decide to attend SMC?
A friend and I signed up for “Meet me at the Avenue” together since Saint Mary’s had always been her dream school. Unfortunately, by the time she let me know that she was unable to attend, I had already reserved myself a spot. I really didn’t want to go, but my parents decided it was necessary that I follow through. I pouted my whole way to South Bend, but within 20 minutes of being on campus I told my mom Saint Mary’s was the school for me. To this day, it blows my mind how I just knew.
Year/Major?
Senior // Nursing Major, Spanish Minor
What is your favorite part of attending SMC?
First of all, the friendships I’ve formed here are absolutely irreplaceable. I can’t say enough wonderful things about my fellow Belles and the sisterhood that exists here. Additionally, since day one, I have admired the confidence, empowerment and intelligence that is said to be attained by the women throughout their journey here. It’s even more incredible when you see it in action as you watch your fellow Belles grow. Women are truly empowered here at Saint Mary’s.
What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to do volunteer work as a Nurse through an organization called Nuestros Hermanos Pequeños in Central or South America. Otherwise or afterwards, I’d like to be a nurse in an Emergency Department or Critical Care Unit.
What is still on your senior year bucket list?
- Hammock in the Belle tower
- Sled with a dining hall tray
- Run the Holy Half
What advice would you give to your freshman self?
- Eat your fruits and vegetables. But actually, do it (raspberry Smirnoff doesn’t count)
- Go volunteer at Hannah’s House, Hannah and Friends, TakeTen or The Center for the Homeless! Get involved in the greater South Bend community because your eyes wil be opened to a whole new world.
- Loosen up and watch more SNL. That’s some good stuff.
Favorite quote?
“First realize that your world is only a reflection of yourself.” -Nisargadatta
What is something you want the world to know?
One in four children suffer from hunger each year in the US, and we’re the ones who need to fix it. Quit expecting your neighbor to be proactive because eventually your neighbors’ neighbors are going to run out of neighbors. Also, if you haven’t done so, watch the shorted version of “Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture”. If it doesn’t change you, then I don’t know what will.
