The First Week Of The Semester As Told By “New Girl”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Saint Mary's chapter.

The first week back after Winter Break is always a whirlwind of emotions. You’re excited to be back with your friends, excited to celebrate the infamous syllabus week, and maybe, just maaaaaybe you’re ready to stay organized and raise that GPA this semester. But most likely, you’re dreading that alarm clock that will so rudely awake you for class when Monday comes around.

You decide to try and look nice for the first day, even though you know your fashion sense won’t last.

You raise your hand eagerly on the first day of class hoping that if you get it over with now, you won’t have to speak for the rest of the semester.

No matter what day of the week, you rally your friends to go out and celebrate being back at school.

You celebrate syllabus week in full force but somehow still manage to make it to your 8 AM the next day.

But you quickly realize that your 8 AM will be seriously interfering with your social life.

You try and stick to that New Years resolution of working out, but in reality you just wish you had some ice cream.

You wonder why college is so hard and consider dropping out at least twice a day

You desperately miss your bed from home,

Your taste buds are having a hard time readjusting to dining hall food.

You realize that this semester will be a lot harder than you thought.

But before you know it Friday has arrived and you’ve made it through the first week of the semester. And since syllabus week was such a stressful week, you deserve to celebrate.
