With Halloween in the books, it mean that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Halloween was all about picking out the right costumes and eating the right candies. Now it’s out with the clown masks and in with the turkeys. Thanksgiving is amazing, because it’s all about coming together with one’s family and sharing everything that’s beautiful together.
But most college students have a difficulty making it back to their home. Saint Mary’s College gives their students a four-day break, and sometimes it is not worth buying a plane ticket for or a long drive back home. Then, there are foreign exchange students who come from different countries, and are not able to fly home just for a little amount of time. So slight problem here… but ever heard of a friendsgiving?
A friendsgiving is exactly what is sounds like: a Thanksgiving dinner celebration with friends. Here are five tips on how to throw the best friendsgiving ever.
Host makes the turkey (or other meat)
It’s a classic. A turkey should always be present at a Thanksgiving dinner, and it should be present at a friendsgiving as well. If turkey is not a popular choice, it can be substituted for another type of meat such as chicken. However, a host should always make the turkey, because it is not easy for it to be transported.
Mashed Potatoes
Mashed potatoes always compliments a turkey. Something so simple as mashed potatoes can really bring something great to the table. Plus, don’t forget the gravy to add
Potluck
The host should coordinate a potluck for every dish that is needed. If someone coordinates it, a dish shouldn’t be repeated aka more choices of food!
“I am thankful for…”
Have everyone check in before coming in by writing their names, addresses, and phone number to send ‘thank-you” cards after the party. Along with writing their information, they can fill in what they are thankful for. During the party, they can each go around and share what they are truly grateful for.
Leftovers
By the end of the night, there might be extras over. Everyone can either take back home what they brought over, or send everyone home with a little bit of leftovers. The most simple way to send everyone off with a little bit of extras are tupperwares. If not, you can never go wrong with taking everything to the shelters.
