We all remember those after school activities that we were involved with in grade school and high school… I like to think that I was truly culturally enriching my life by exposing myself to all the activities that I did. But let’s be realistic, I could just never stick with any of the things that I begged my mom to sign me up for. #sorrynotsorry
I’m sure we were all on a soccer team when we were little. (Don’t even try to tell me you weren’t…) I don’t know about you, but when I wasn’t being a bench warmer, I was on the field secretly hoping that the ball wouldn’t be kicked to me. I vividly recal thinking, “Oh God get it away from me!” or “Don’t run so fast so then you don’t have to kick it.” (Clearly I was quite motivated.)
My favorite part of playing soccer was without a doubt the post game orange slices and Capri Sun pouches (aka my first cell phone). If that wasn’t your favorite part of soccer then you’re crazy…or you actually went on to play soccer in high school. (In that case…kudos to you, girlfriend, you rock.)
All I can say is I am going to be the best soccer mom to my kids; they won’t go a game without those yummy treats. Don’t worry though, future kids, I’ll bring cookies or ice cream sandwiches because who likes fruit anyways?
I think my favorite of my many activities was the flute. Yes the flute. I mean how could I not strive to be musically talented? Obviously sports weren’t my forte so music had to be in the cards for me, right? At least that was the logic in my brain. I promised my mom I would practice everyday and would stick with it. Ha. What a lie.
I recall sitting in front of the little DVD player watching the “how to” video and realized that I am clearly not one for listening to directions because after about ten minutes of trying to figure out how to play the darn thing I just kind of sat there and pretended until it was over. I think I played the flute for a total of one month. #GoBelles
Then of course there was horse back riding. I mean come on who doesn’t want to ride pretty ponies! So yes, I road horses. I competed in horse shows that consisted of trotting around the arena. Yet I seemed to always get the pretty pink participation ribbons. (Who wants first place ribbons anyway…pink is SO much prettier than blue.) But of course, my natural instinct was to quit.
These are just a few of my many activities that culturally enriched my life. (I know what you’re thinking – what else could she have possibly tried to do?!) There were the many different types of dance: Irish, jazz, ballet, and hip-hop. Yes, I did hip-hop. I took art classes, cooking classes, piano lessons, and played almost every sport possible. Yet here I am still trying to figure out what I like to do with my free time. Not gonna lie… I’ve gotten pretty good at crafting for my dorm room!
