Netflix has become a staple part of our culture with most of us seeming to have access to it, through our own accounts, or others. With its rise in popularity, Netflix has now become known for providing your favorite content as well as producing original movies and shows. I’ve recently indulged in a number of these and decided to start a series to review the best and the worst. This week’s show is Santa Clarita Diet.
*Spoilers below!
Santa Clarita Diet is the go-to show if you’re looking for a new dark comedy. The show follows realtors Sheila and Joel, played by Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, as well as their daughter Abby. The typical family is thrown for a loop when Sheila goes throughout a hilarious, and a bit disgusting, transformation – into a zombie. A lack of a heartbeat, the eventual loss of body parts, and a craving for raw meat is their new normal.
The family must scramble to avoid nosy neighbors (both who are cops), figure out how to keep Sheila fed, and keep this huge secret. With Sheila becoming more aggressive and displaying more “zombie-like” behavior, i.e. killing and eating a co-worker, the family must work together now more than ever.Â
As season one progresses, we learn more about the origins of zombie-ism and how there may be others like Sheila out there, as well as a cure. With this hope however, there’s still fear that someday Sheila may be discovered or may turn into a full-fledged zombie, before they can save her.

Each episode is approximately half an hour long, with ten episodes per season. Netflix recently released season two, so this may be your new show to binge watch!
