On July 4, 2019, Netflix released the third season of the popular science fiction tv-show, Stranger Things. Like the previous seasons of the show, the third season received a certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with most critics praising it for its humor, acting, visuals, character development, and action scenes. Although most critics and fans enjoyed the new season, some critics and audiences felt this season wasn’t as good as the previous ones. Why is that exactly? Below are a few things people have been saying about the new season.Â
Â
“It’s not as good as seasons 1 and 2“
Some critics and fans were disappointed that the third season didn’t live up to the high expectations of seasons one and two.Â
Most of them criticized this season for not having enough action and focusing too much on the kids growing up and complained that the episodes were slow-paced and left some things open ended.Â
Tori Preston from Pajiba wrote, “Ultimately, Stranger Things 1 & 2 offered cohesive stories that surpassed the weakness of some of the parts, whereas Stranger Things 3 had some truly outstanding parts that did not make up for the weakness of the overall story arc.”
Â
“It’s terrible”
Other fans who were disappointed with this season complained it was terrible and ultimately ruined the show for them. Most of them complained this season was full of fan-service moments, had a disappointing season finale, and bad acting.Â
Rodrigo Perez from The Playlist wrote, “If “Stranger Things” refuses to grow up, its legacy will be remembered as a hit show that fell prey to the franchise fatigue, content to play with the same old toys while everyone else moved on.”Â
Â
“It’s the best season so far“
Not all fans and critics thought this season was a let-down. In fact, some thought the third season was either the best season of the show or much better than season two.Â
Linda Maleh from Forbes wrote, “This is Stranger Things most enjoyable season yet. The fact of the matter is that Matt and Ross Duffer keep using the same formula because it works, and because they know how to wield it to ensure maximum entertainment.Â
Â
Overall, despite, a few negative reviews from critics and audiences, the third season of Stranger Things was both a critical and commercial success. With the third season earning Netflix a record-breaking viewership in the first few days of its release.
Although the series hasn’t been renewed for a fourth season yet, fans can only hope that the series will continue after the last episode left them on a thrilling cliffhanger.Â
