Her Campus (HC): How old are you?
Melinda Olson (MO): 19
HC: What is your major?
MO: Currently, I am Undeclared. I am considering majoring in Psychology and minoring in English.
HC: What is your dream job?
MO: My dream job is to do something in the pre-health field where I’d be able to work with children. My dream has always been to become a pediatrician.

HC: What is your favorite thing about USD?
MO: My favorite thing about USD is the environment. Everyone on campus is so friendly and nice. Not only do I like the USD community, but San Diego is also such a beautiful city, and I love that the beach is only 15 minutes away from school. I think that’s one of the things I enjoy the most.
HC: Who is your favorite professor?
MO: I would say that my favorite professor thus far at USD is Professor Latzer. He’s currently my Chem 151 teacher and, although Chemistry is my least favorite subject, he makes it fun. I always look forward to all of the funny stories he tells in class; he’s pretty chill.

HC: How are you involved at USD?
MO: I’m involved in USD Intervarsity, a Christian fellowship club. My faith is really important to me, so I love being involved with that. I’m also involved in University Ministry and am a hospitality minister.

HC: What is your favorite part about intervarsity at USD?
MO: My favorite part about USD Intervarsity is the community and all of the events we do. Everyone is so friendly and nice, and I love being able to grow more in my faith with people that are doing the same thing. It’s great. We also do a lot of fun activities, like go on retreats. Not too long ago, we went on a retreat to Palomar Mountain. It was such an incredible experience, and I grew closer to a lot of the people. I remember one of my favorite memories from that weekend was when we randomly cut my friend Taylor’s hair. It was just spontaneous and fun; all of the girls were together just laughing and it was just a good time.
HC: With this semester coming to a close, what are you looking forward to next semester?
MO: What I’m looking forward to next semester is possibly doing an internship. I hope to volunteer or intern at a hospital in San Diego to gain more experience in the pre-health field and to gain clinical hours, as I am planning on going to Nursing School.

HC: What are your plans for winter break?
MO: Over winter break, I’m going to be in Italy for 3 weeks as part of the SYE program. I am so excited. I have never been out of the country before, so I’m looking forward to new experiences. I’ve always wanted to go to Italy. I’ll also most likely be spending time with my friends and family.

HC: How exciting! Now for a little more about you… what is your favorite TV show?
MO: There are a lot of TV shows that I like, but I would say New Girl is my favorite. I love the characters in it and it’s just overall really funny. I’m into comedy, so I really enjoy that show. If you’ve never seen it I highly recommend you watch it!
HC: Favorite movie?
MO: My favorite movie of all time is Mean Girls. I’ve watched that movie about 1,000 times and it never gets old. My friends and I can pretty much quote every line.

HC: What type of music do you listen to?
MO: I mostly listen to Indie/Alternative music. Some of my favorite bands are Arctic Monkeys, Atlas Genius, Foster the People, and Phoenix.
HC: Who is your celebrity crush?
MO: I have a lot of celebrity crushes, so it’s hard to choose just one. So, I would say my top two celeb crushes are Zac Efron and Paul Rudd.

HC: What is your dream date?
MO: My dream date would start with the guy picking me up, then taking me to a nice dinner where we could just talk and get to know each other, and would end with us going to the beach to watch the sunset. Sunsets are currently my obsession, and I also think it would make for a nice, romantic date.
HC: What do you look for in a guy?
MO: Some of the most important qualities I look for in a guy are that they have to be Catholic (as that is my faith), have a good sense of humor and make me laugh, be goofy like I am, be kind, and they have to be ambitious/driven.
HC: Are you single? Our readers are always curious!
Yes, I am single as of right now.
