Unfortunately, the dreaded freshman 15 isn’t a myth (something my friends and I have discovered the hard way). However, with a few of the following quick tips it can be avoided.

Use the stairs:

It may sound simple, but it’s a great way to get exercise (and have great legs). Just take the stairs instead of the elevator every once in a while.

Take the long way to and from class:

The extra five minutes it takes using the long way to get to class and back will not kill you. In fact, it will be good for you for many different reasons. You’ll get easy exercise, fresh air, and you’ll never know who you might run into (maybe that cute guy in your math class).

Go to the gym:

As a college student free time can be hard to find, but an hour out of your day to go to the gym is a great way to avoid the Freshman 15.

Watch what you eat:

It’s easy to get carried away with food in college. Your parents are not here to tell you when and what to eat anymore, not to mention all the food you have access to now. It’s easy to overeat. So just monitor what you eat. For example, if you have a hamburger for lunch, have a salad for dinner! Or instead of snaking on chips, eat something a little healthier like hummus or cucumbers. Little changes in your diet can make all the difference.
