A Guide to San Francisco’s Best Farmers Markets for Fresh Fall Ingredients

Farmers markets offer a unique experience to shop from local farmers and vendors, and San Francisco is home to some of the best markets in the country. Not only is it an opportunity to support local vendors, it’s a great chance to interact with the community. Take your friends and loved ones to one of these farmers markets for a cute and exciting activity 

SFSU Associated Students Farmers Market 

1600 Holloway Ave, San Francisco (located in between Humanities building and Fine Arts building)

Thurs 10 AM – 3 PM

San Francisco State University students are able to shop on campus for healthy and fresh foods. Associated Students holds a Farmers Market every Thursday that includes local farmers and businesses. So while you have some time in between classes, take a peek at what’s for sale.

Ferry Plaza Farmers Market 

One Ferry Building #50, 1 Ferry Plaza, San Francisco

Tues/Thurs 10 AM – 2 PM

Sat 8 AM – 2 PM

Located in front of the Ferry Building, you can enjoy this Farmers Market multiple days a week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Farmers Market offers fresh produce and delicious street food options. On Saturdays, it also includes over 100 vendors to enjoy. It’s easy to get to with public transit, by exiting out of the Embarcadero Station and either walking to the Ferry Building or taking the Muni F bus. 

Stonestown Farmers Market

501 Buckingham Way, San Francisco

Sun 9 AM – 1 PM

The Stonestown Farmers Market is open every Sunday year-round for everyone to join. Located next to the UA Theatre, it’s super close to the SFSU campus, making it an easy walk from class to market! Along with the fresh food for sale, local musicians provide a variety of music every week for guest entertainment. 

Alemany Farmers Market

100 Alemany Boulevard, San Francisco

Sat 7 AM – 3 PM

The Alemany Farmers Market was the first farmers to open in California in 1943, and it’s still going strong today. Local family farmers come together to sell their fresh produce while other vendors provide delicious lunch options. The Muni 23 bus will take you right around the corner! 

Fort Mason Center Farmers Market

Fort Mason Center, Marina Boulevard, San Francisco 

Sun 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
In the Marina district, over 35 farmers gather in the Fort Mason Center to create this farmers market. This market in particular is a great place to enjoy a brunch or picnic with a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Muni 28 bus will take you from SFSU’s campus to a few blocks away from the Fort Mason Center, or you can transfer onto the Muni 43 bus which will take you closer. 

Whether you live in the city or visit every now and then, San Francisco’s farmers markets offer a variety of in-season foods that celebrate the city’s food culture and community gathering. Each market throughout the city is special and unique in its own way, which will make each trip worthwhile. Go out and find fresh finds, create happy memories, and support San Francisco’s local farmers.
