Fall Fashion week is coming to a close, and this year had no shortage of looks both on and off the runway.
Though it may not always feel like fall quite yet in our corner of the world, if you feel like taking some inspiration and incorporating the aesthetics in a practical way that can change up your outfits, this is the perfect opportunity to do so as we move closer to officially being in Fall.
Sheer materials (in particular lace maxi dresses) made a big return this year, as did metallics and drop waists.
As for color, the overwhelming amount of runway collections gave us neutrals, especially blacks, however also many golds and yellows.
Texture and 3D elements seemed to take center stage this year as opposed to prints, with many different hems, big flower embellishments, and sequins appearing in a multitude of ways.Â
A blazer is no exception – there’s endless amounts of colors and silhouettes to choose from. As long as the silhouette allows for you to wear the clothes and not vice versa, it can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion, and it can really bring an extra edge to any look.
It’s true that it is good to have one staple piece in your wardrobe if possible, that you can mix and match with different outfits. Ultimately, it is better to have one high-quality piece as opposed to a few fast fashion items that will get recycled and tossed after one season. Not only is it better for the planet, but since fashion is recycled every ten years or so, you are bound to find a way to re-use it or, worst case, pass it down to someone else. Thrifting in general is a fun and more sustainable way to shop – plus, a lot of the time, the gems you will find at some thrift stores (hint: check out the ones on Haight and Ashbury!) are truly one-of-a-kind finds. That’s just the cherry on top.Â
Whether you are someone who likes athletic wear, dresses and more traditionally more “girly” aesthetics, alternative, or someone who enjoys a classic jeans and t-shirt moment, the key is that as long as you feel good and confident wearing it, it will show. Fashion Week is always greatly anticipated, not only because it pushes creative boundaries and never ceases to bring something unexpected, but also because we can get inspired and see what elements and trends we want to play on to change up a look. For someone like myself, who due to a hectic schedule oftentimes is stuck wearing the same old clothes day to day, week to week – dressing up is an opportunity to let yourself have your moment, even if all you’re doing is going to the grocery store. The more unique the runway, the better.
