According to the article, “12 Things You Love The Most About Thanksgiving”, posted on Yahoo Food, a staggering 91 percent of people plan to cook a turkey for Thanksgiving. This might not be a surprise to most since Thanksgiving is also known as Turkey Day. But, did you know that 10% of people plan on preparing a meatless entrée instead of a Turkey? Bet you didn’t know that the majority of them are millennials. In fact, millennials are creating modern twists on many Thanksgiving classics this year, bringing a new take on one of America’s most traditional and festive holidays.
Millennials are not only bringing new dishes to the table, the ones who plan on cooking a turkey are mixing the prepping process up. 28 percent of Americans plan on brining their turkey this year, and you guess it – most of them are millennials. Brining brings a whole new level of moisture and flavor into the turkey. Most people will dump their turkey in a bath of water, citrus, herbs, and salt to keep the juices of the turkey locked in during the cooking process. Most people will leave it overnight to brine, while ambitious individuals may brine theirs for up to 3 days. If that wasn’t creative enough, Millennials are planning on throwing out the old roasting technique and adopting new ones. 8 percent of millennials plan on smoking their turkey while 12 percent plan on deep-frying theirs. Anything deep-fried is golden in my book! (pun intended)
However not everyone wants a make a turkey. Some people prefer a delicious honey baked ham, or better yet, they will make both a turkey and a ham to cater to all taste buds. 33 percent of Americans will prepare some type of a porky goodness dish, while about half of millennials plan on serving a pork entrée.
What about the cranberry sauce and gravy? Well, apparently America is on a nation wide diet because according to the article gravy is not a huge hit on the table. In fact, it didn’t make it onto the list of what people like to eat the most during Thanksgiving. Cranberry sauce seems to be hitting an all time low as well because it didn’t make it onto the list too. Maybe its because millennials aren’t into the whole mysterious jellied canned cranberries that resemble more gelatin than sauce to be honest. However, that statement may be biased since I am a millennial, but statistics do not lie! 33 percent of millennials said they do not like canned or fresh cranberry sauce, and half of them said they completely taken it out of their turkey day feast. Ouch – what a tough break for cranberries…
No matter how you plan on celebrating Thanksgiving, it is still one of America’s most festive holidays. It is a day to spend time with loved ones and enjoy an enormous feast without being judged for wanting seconds, or thirds, or oohh! – is that pumpkin pie? Why, yes please!
Happy Holidays & Stay Fabulous!

Nicole
