Â
How long have you been playing? What made you start playing drums?
I’ve been playing drums basically since I can remember. Â I think I got my first drum kit when I was around 4 years old. Â I grew up with music surrounding me constantly. Â My entire family plays instruments and they all had a huge influence on me. Â
What/Who are your main influences?
I’m a riduculously huge Beatles fan, as well as most classic rock bands. Â My favorite drummer of all time is John Bonham from Led Zeppelin. Â His style really influenced the way I play. Â As far as current musicians, my favorite bands are Brand New, Thrice, Circa Survive, and Manchester Orchestra, but there are countless others that have influenced me musically. Â
Tell me about your band history.
All throughout high school I was in a band called The Violet Hour. Â We recorded a bunch of music and played around locally from freshman until senior year. Â Now one of the former TVH guitarists and I are in a new project together. Â
How was your experience recording with a producer?
The first time The Violet Hour recorded I was only 14 years old. We found the guy that produced our music through another local band that we used to play shows with, and since then he has recorded every TVH song and the drums for our new project. Â It’s a really interesting experience recording with a band. Â There are a lot of long hours involved and hard work, but the finished product always makes it worth it. Â
Tell me about the project you just finished.Â
My new project Builders just released our first EP entitled Makeshift Seams. Â It’s a much different style from The Violet Hour. Â It’s much more mellow and laid back. Â
How far do you plan to go in the music industry?Â
I’m currently studying BECA at SFSU and hope to become a producer in the future. Â I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to play live shows and record with bands, and I don’t plan to ever stop playing. Â
