Earlier this year, I made a mental note to begin taking better care of my body and helping support more local and independent businesses. Thanks to one of my favorite podcasts, Lady Lovin’, I found out about LOLA.
LOLA provides a subscription service to their 100 percent organic cotton tampons, pads, and liners. Before learning about LOLA and their mission, the thought of what ingredients were in the feminine products that I’ve used (every single month for the past six years of my life) had never even crossed my mind.
According to LOLA’s statistics, women use about 10,000 feminine products over the course of their lifetime. Turns out, the average supermarket tampons aren’t all that simple, and are filled with ingredients that I can’t even pronounce.
The founders of LOLA recognized the problems troubling the feminine products industry, and decided to take action. They provide affordable products, with prices ranging from $8-$10 a box, and also donate their products to low income females across the United States. They also consistently offer discounts and sales and always provide free shipping!
You can learn more about LOLA, their products, and their mission on their website, but for now, let’s get started with my review.
My tampons arrived in the mail on Day 2 of my beloved period. I was so excited to try them out that I accidentally broke the applicator! I have been using nothing but Tampax and Kotex tampons, so I was expecting the LOLA ones to “click” just like my others do. I was wrong. Fortunately, these tampons were easily applicable even without the applicator. The applicators themselves are a bit bulky; I noticed a super sized LOLA tampon was about a super plus sized typical tampon.
My flow is pretty moderate and lasts about a week, but this time I noticed that the tampons did not need to be changed as often as they normally would, even when I slept. Also, my flow ended up only taking about five days to end. This was very strange for me because my flow has always been consistent and has always lasted exactly seven days. It could be that I had a rare experience and my flow was just very light, or, what I suspect, is that the LOLA tampons were simply more absorbent in my body than the tampons I usually use. I will continue to finish up the boxes of tampons I have and see if I notice any type of patterns relating to this.
The only “issue” that I have with these guys is that the wrappers are super noisy and crackly. But besides that, I really liked them. They were comfortable and I actually felt good about putting them in my body.
